Webster's Unabridged Dictionary 1913: Webster's Unabridged Dictionary was authored by Noah Webster (1758–1843). He also authored reader and spelling books that dominated the American market at the time. He spent decades of research in compiling his dictionaries. His first dictionary, A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language, appeared in 1806. In it, he popularized features that would become a hallmark of American English spelling and it also included technical terms from the arts and sciences rather than confining his dictionary to literary words. In A Companion to the American Revolution (2008), John Algeo notes: "it is often assumed that characteristically American spellings were invented by Noah Webster. He was very influential in popularizing certain spellings in America, but he did not originate them. Nave's Topical Bible Concordance; Nave's Topical Bible Concordance is written by Orville James Nave (1841–1917). Nave, a chaplain in the United States Army, referred to his work as "the result of fourteen years of delight and untiring study of the Word of God." It is a topical concordance of the Bible, and contains Biblical references to 5320 topics. Scripture is quoted over 100,000 times; the same Scripture citation may appear under several headings. It took 14 years to complete. Hitchcock's Bible Names Dictionary; This dictionary is from "Hitchcock's New and Complete Analysis of the Holy Bible," written by Roswell D. Hitchcock in 1869. It contains 2737 entries from the Bible and Bible-related proper names and their meanings. Easton's Bible Dictionary; Easton's Bible Dictionary is a reference work on topics related to the Christian Bible authored by Matthew George Easton. The first edition was published in 1893 and a revised edition was published the following year. The most popular edition, however, was the third, which was published by Thomas Nelson in 1897, three years after Easton's death. This edition contains 3924 entries relating to the Bible from a 19th-century perspective. Many of the entries in Easton's are encyclopedic in nature, although there are also short dictionary-type entries. Greek Strongs Concordance; The Greek Strongs are the 5523 Greek root words as used in the New Testament. It is part of the Strong's Concordance, an index of every word in the King James Version, constructed under the direction of James Strong. Strong first published his Concordance in 1890, while professor of exegetical theology at Drew Theological Seminary.
